Course content Worldwide, pain is the main reason for a visit to the dentist. Well-founded knowledge of pain diagnosis and treatment based on the current state of knowledge should therefore be a matter of course for dentists. The ""International Classification of Orofacial Pain"" (ICOP; German version: 2021) published in 2020 distinguishes between dento-alveolar, muscular, temporomandibular joint-related, neuropathic, cephalgic-orofacial and idiopathic pain. The clinically most important entities of this new taxonomy, including the terminological innovations, will be presented in this seminar. In addition, typical and common causes of painful changes in the mucosa will be shown and discussed. These mucosal changes can occur acutely, recurrently or chronically, which is usually typical of the corresponding pathology. Finally, pain and its diagnosis in temporomandibular joint problems will also be discussed. In particular, the decision-making process for 2D versus 3D radiologic imaging will be discussed. The aim of the webinar is to make you so fit that from Monday you will be able to deal with your pain patients in the practice much more confidently and better than is already the case.
