Seminar content: While plaque control has been at the forefront of gingivitis and periodontitis therapy since the 1960s, the host response of the organism is now moving into the scientific foreground with regard to the etiology of gingivitis and periodontitis. Host modulation therapy aims to influence the inflammatory response of the organism with medication or lifestyle modification, thereby reducing gingivitis and supporting periodontitis therapy.
