Content of the webinar
In periodontology, promising treatment concepts are available, which in many cases make it possible to preserve teeth that are primarily classified as critical, even over a longer period of time. Lifelong prophylactic support by the dental team is of great importance at every stage of life. In the following lectures by Prof. Ratka-Krüger, individual patient groups in different phases of life will be presented with their specific characteristics and needs. On the one hand, the treatment of pregnant women, whose hormonal changes entail an increased risk of gum disease, will be addressed. Periodontal disease can also occur in children and adolescents, often as gingivitis and less frequently as periodontitis. It is important to recognize these diseases at an early stage in order to initiate appropriate treatment steps. Continuous preventive measures, tailored to the respective age, make a significant contribution to improving dental health. Due to demographic trends, the proportion of older patients in dental practices continues to increase. Accordingly, special attention should be paid to their treatment. Ultimately, supportive periodontitis therapy is the key to any successful treatment. The final part of the lecture series will focus on what this involves and how it is implemented.
