Content of the course: The treatment of high-risk patients often presents dentists with special challenges. Patients with multiple systemic diseases, polymedicated patients, pregnant patients as well as children also have special characteristics in the dental field that must be taken into account by the practitioner, especially during invasive procedures. Local anesthesia is an essential component of many dental treatments and is the most common invasive procedure. Although it is considered safe, local anesthesia has the highest complication rate compared to all other treatments, accounting for 4-5% of procedures . Complications can occur both locally and systemically . Not every technique is equally prone to complications, especially in older, multimorbid high-risk patients, the use of the different methods should be weighed up against each other. The webinar will analyze the most important complications of the different anesthesia techniques and preparations and discuss possible alternative methods of local anesthesia, in particular intraligamentary anesthesia (ILA).
