The 2nd milk molars are key teeth of the mixed dentition. Retaining the deciduous teeth and especially the deciduous 5th molars enables stable occlusion and correct development of the dentition. If this change is delayed or does not take place at all, this has considerable consequences for the further development of the dentition. The aim of this lecture is to present the various clinical situations that can arise around the 2nd milk molars. It will also provide an overview of the various treatment options and the best times forinterventions. Further therapy concepts and optional treatment options will be addressed.
